Right Hire was engaged on a subcontractor basis by Downer Engineering to deliver civil engineering services as part of the NCTIR rebuild following the Kaikoura earthquake sequences. The NCTIR project was set up to reconnect communities along the Kaikoura cost, including rebuilding transport networks for increased safety and resilience.
Right Hire carried out civil works associated with road stabilisation for a section of the State Highway network damaged by earthquake-induced landslips and erosion. Working in collaboration with a network of engineering crews, Right Hire successfully carried out over $3.SM worth of physical civil works to an urgent timeframe, including:
The work was delivered within a complex worksite subject to high natural hazards, as well as hazards from site construction and traffic. Road stabilisation in this environment was a challenging task, requiring Right Hire to plan and manage its staff and resources effectively, and to operate an excellent site safety plan that met the requirements of Waka Kotahi and Downer Engineering.
Right Hire successfully worked in alongside other civil contractors to manage the site works safely, including managing access corridors for transport of materials, plant and equipment. We committed to the requirements of the project that called for staff and teams to temporarily relocate to Kaikoura, investing in plant and equipment to ensure we could meet our commitments fully under the contract. Our section of the civil works was completed to agreed timeframes and budgets, contributing to the ambitious overall target for reopening set by the Minister.
Right Hire provided exceptional civil services, working and meeting our commitments to timeframes in a challenging physical environment.
